Lisa Lavelle Burke is a writer, photographer, lawyer, Master Gardener, Master Naturalist Intern, and member of the School Garden Advisory Board of the DC Office of State Superintendent of Schools. In 2009, she joined an inspirational group of fellow parents to help start a school garden, and became a volunteer School Garden Coordinator at a public school in Washington, D.C., where she also volunteers to teach after school Hands on Science. She sees a garden as a science lab, mathematical puzzle, window into history, source of literary, artistic, and philosophical inspiration, and a playground. If a child has ever called you “the garden lady” or a similar moniker, you will enjoy this site — even if you cringe to think of yourself as “the garden lady.”
